Major astrological events this week:

  • Mercury retrograde entered Leo on August 14th

  • THREE squares in one week: Mars Square Saturn, Mercury Square Uranus, and Jupiter Square Saturn.

  • Full Moon in Aquarius on August 19th

Mercury Retrograde in Leo:

  • Mercury has been in retrograde since August 4th, and while that’s not even such a long time, many of us are so OVER it already!

  • To be fair, Mercury began this retrograde cycle in the sign of Virgo, a sign that has an especially difficult time with Mercury retrogrades, being that Mercury is its ruling planet.

  • Mercury will remain retrograde until August 28th, but now it’s in the sign of Leo, which changes things up quite a bit! Leo is bold, confident, unapologetic, and enthusiastic. Mercury in the sign of Leo indicates strong-mindedness, straightforward/direct communication, and a performative, entertaining side to one’s personality. When Mercury is direct, these traits are more welcome, but now, we could face the dilemma of being too egotistical and not knowing when we’re taking it too far. Feelings could be heightened during this time, making us feel a lot more dramatic and reactive. This could be offset by regulating our nervous systems through methods like breathwork. This will help us choose our battles wisely and think BEFORE reacting.

Mars Squared Saturn on August 15th:

  • Yesterday, Mars in Gemini is made a Square with Saturn in Pisces. This could have felt challenging and tense, because Mars, the planet of action, assertion, and drive, is making a harsh aspect with Saturn, the planet of discipline, restriction, boundaries, and responsibilities.

  • This aspect could feel like this: We want to get going with something and make things happen effortlessly and we are putting in the work to get results, but then Saturn comes in and delays those results. This makes us feel stuck and unsure of how to proceed, causing lots of inner tension, anxiety, and stress. Saturn in the sign of Pisces could cloud our judgment, whereas Mars in Gemini strives for clarity, hence the square between the two signs.

Mercury Squares Uranus on August 18th:

  • On August 18th, Mercury in Leo will make a square with Uranus in Taurus.

  • This is especially tough right now since Mercury is in retrograde! Remember that Mercury rules communication and the mind and Uranus rules unexpected events, mishaps, unconventionality, rebellion, and change.

  • Beware of picking fights with others or giving into conflict. It’s much better to ignore any distractions that divert our attention and disrupt our inner peace, because we could find ourselves experiencing a sense of internal chaos and feeling “off.”

  • This is not a good day to make or change any major plans, because miscommunication and misunderstandings will be rife.

Jupiter Squares Saturn on August 19th:

  • On August 19th, Jupiter in Gemini will make a square with Saturn in Pisces.

  • This transit is all about striking a balance between freedom and structure, adventure vs. responsibility. That’s because Jupiter rules expansion, abundance, and the idea of pushing limits, while Saturn constricts and restricts. This transit takes the saying “work hard, play hard” to a whole new level.

  • This could also be a time when we receive seemingly unnecessary and unwanted criticism from others. We shouldn’t write it off completely, but rather, we have to be discerning and willing to learn what works vs. what doesn’t.

Blue Super Full Moon in Aquarius on August 19th:

  • Change, innovation, progress, unconventionality, uniqueness are all words that most likely come to mind when thinking of Aquarius!

  • The upcoming Full Moon in Aquarius will feel profound in the sense that it will push or maybe just nudge us on a trajectory that is more in line with our true needs. We may feel compelled to analyze our habits, especially when it comes to technology (a major Aquarius topic.)

  • Aquarius is also a humanitarian sign, a visionary that seeks what’s best for the collective. During this time, we may be trying to understand our roles as individuals vs. in communities. Belonging and understanding where we “fit in” could be topics that cross our minds.

  • Emotions could feel especially heightened during this full moon, mainly because it will make a T-Square with Mercury retrograde in Leo and Uranus in Taurus. In other words, the moon will form a 180-degree opposition aspect with Mercury while forming a square aspect with Uranus. A T-Square is an aspect pattern that resembles the letter T. It usually indicates a critical point in time when things could feel tense and stressful, but this intense energy could serve as a catalyst for solving problems.

  • This is the first Super Blue Moon in Aquarius since 2014! A Super Moon occurs when a new moon or full moon is perigee, which means that it’s at its closest orbit to planet Earth.

  • Full and Blue moons take place at the end of a lunar cycle, thus pushing us towards closure from situations, relationships, and agreements that aren’t in alignment with what’s truly intended for us. Harsh truths and disappointments could emerge during this time, but these will ultimately be for the better or at least teach us something valuable.

  • This full moon will ESPECIALLY affect fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius.) Clarity can be gained around relationships, partnerships, thought patterns, our sense of security, and finding purpose.

Astrology concept of the week: What are retrogrades and how do they affect us?

  • I figured it would be very fitting to discuss retrogrades this week, given that there are currently four planets (Mercury, Saturn, Neptune, Pluto) and one asteroid (Chiron) in retrograde!

  • A retrograde happens when a planet appears to be moving backward in its orbit. It is not moving backward in actuality, but it appears that way because of the relative positions of the planet and Earth and how they are moving around the Sun.

  • In astrology, retrograde periods are associated with various challenges and obstacles, but can also be beneficial. They vary from planet to planet because the themes and topics of each planet are all different.

  • It’s important to distinguish that retrogrades affect us on a collective level and an individual level and that many of us were born during retrogrades and therefore could have planets in retrograde in our own birth charts.

  • Here’s what it could mean if you have retrograde planets in your birth chart:

Mercury Retrograde: Stuttering, disrupted speech, frequently feeling misunderstood by others, difficulty thinking/concentrating.

Mars Retrograde: Difficulty asserting oneself, lacking the desire to take the initiative, reduced motivation, apprehensive, and could find it difficult to make decisions.

Venus Retrograde: Reluctance to allow themselves to receive love, delays in finding a committed partner, could also struggle with self-love and acceptance.

Saturn Retrograde: This Could indicate having no father or father figure in one’s life, self-limiting, self-doubt, and lack of discipline in the house where Saturn is placed in the birth chart.
