Cancer season is (almost) upon us!

  • On June 21st, our beloved Sun enters Cancer, a Cardinal Water sign.

  • Ruled by the Moon, the sign of Cancer represents feminine energy, nurturance, the home and family, ancestry, emotions, and feelings.

  • While Gemini season probably had a lot of us thinking (maybe even overthinking!), Cancer season asks us to tune into our hearts to understand our deepest emotional needs so that we can hold space to practice radical empathy to help heal those around us.

  • Cancer is said to have a more open heart chakra than other signs, potentially making us shift towards embracing openness and vulnerability. At the same time, we might feel more sensitive and in tune with our emotional changes, which are likely to be more frequent than normal.

  • Practicing self-care and unconditional self-love and acceptance is also vital during Cancer season, so remember to talk to yourself in an uplifting way while creating a safe, comforting environment for yourself and others.

  • Finally, we may also find ourselves yearning to reconnect with our families, whether that’s the family we grew up with or our chosen (found) families.

  • Here are some journal prompts for the 2024 Cancer Season:

    1. What does self-care look like for you?

    2. how does honoring your sensitivity make you more aware of your own needs, the needs of others, and society as a collective?

    3. Remember that the Moon rules Cancer! Think about the symbolism often associated with the moon, such as femininity, intuition, and reflection. How do these concepts resonate with you?

Celebrate the Summer Solstice today!:

  • The Summer Solstice marks the beginning of the Summer season! It typically takes place on the 20th or 21st of June, depending on the year.

  • Today is the longest day of the year, with the sun situated at its highest point in the sky. Depending on where you are in the world, there will be anywhere from 13 to 24 hours of daylight.

  • The Solstice occurs right around when Cancer season begins. Cancer is a Cardinal sign that represents new beginnings, initiating new projects, and taking action. Remember that the Cardinal signs each start a season. It is also a time to celebrate life as the Sun, which is associated with Summer, symbolizes fertility in many cultures.

  • Tomorrow’s full moon takes place at a unique time. First of all, it marks a challenging aspect; Sun Opposition Moon, because the sun sign of Cancer is opposite from the moon sign of Capricorn. This is the case during all full moons, but this one in particular could really have us in our feelings.

  • The Cancerian energy could have us feeling quite nostalgic and longing for something or someone from the past. This nostalgia can also manifest in the form of unpleasant memories, regrets, and resentment. Cancer isn’t known to move on quickly.

  • The Capricornian energy on the other hand is more grounded, practical, and structured. This is a sign that has a tendency to be quite hard on itself, especially the Capricorn Moon placement in the natal chart.

  • When these two energies are combined, this may cause us to feel disappointment about missed opportunities, projects that aren’t going as planned, relationships that went sour, etc. However, Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is a very karmic planet that teaches us lessons throughout our lives. Therefore, this full moon could also potentially gear us in the right direction and give us clarity surrounding what actions to take to support our highest good. Remember that Cancer and Capricorn are both Cardinal signs, so we may feel compelled to take action and finalize major decisions.

  • This full moon is nicknamed the ‘Strawberry’ moon because it takes place during the Strawberry harvest. These moon names originate from indigenous tribes in the Americas, learn more here.

Astrology concept of the week: What are the elements in astrology?

Source: istockphoto.com

  • There are 12 zodiac signs in Western astrology. They are categorized by their modality (Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable) and element (Earth, Air, Water, Fire.)

  • 🌍The Earth signs are Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo.

  • 💨The Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

  • 💧The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces.

  • 🔥The Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.

  • Each element lends zodiac signs specific characteristics and traits. Earth signs tend to be practical, organized, and reliable and desire more structure than freedom. Air signs are typically more mental than emotional, intellectual, flexible, social, and ever-changing. Water signs are known to be more emotionally deep, intuitive, sensitive, and protective of their loved ones. Fire signs are usually adventurous, bold, daring, courageous, and outspoken. These personality traits, unsurprisingly, make a lot of sense when you think about each element.
