Major astrological events
Pluto goes retrograde on May 2nd, 2024.
Pluto is the co-ruler of Scorpio (along with Mars) and is associated with rebirth, transformation, power, regeneration, and the subconscious mind.
On January 20th, 2024, Pluto entered the sign of Aquarius for the first time in 226 years. According to NASA, Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006. Being that it is the farthest “planet” from the sun in our solar system, Pluto takes approximately 248 Earth years to complete a full orbit around the sun.

What can we expect during this Pluto retrograde?
Pluto will remain retrograde from May 2nd, 2024, until October 11th, 2024.
First of all, we have to understand how the energies of Aquarius manifest in Pluto. Aquarius is an air sign governed by Uranus and Saturn. The influence of Uranus brings technological innovation, disruptions, “shock value,” and unconventionality. Aquarians typically like to stand out and recognize that part of their strength lies within their individuality and unique identity. The sign of Aquarius is also linked to themes of humanitarianism and the collective.
The concept of planets going retrograde can be tricky to grasp-When Mercury goes retrograde, for example, communication goes haywire and we tend to experience strange, unexplainable situations. However, Pluto going retrograde tends to be more beneficial, because it allows us to reflect on ourselves and the world as a whole. In sum, a period of retrograde can have varying effects depending on which planet is in retrograde (and what zodiac sign it’s in, etc.)
On an individual level, Pluto retrograde represents a time when we are compelled to focus on areas of ourselves and our lives that have been overlooked for too long. In essence, it is a time to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable,” and connect with our shadow side. Last week’s full moon in Scorpio also had us dive deep within to acknowledge our past pain and traumas. Pluto retrograde is also an ideal time for us to set our intentions and manifest our true desires because it enables us to tap into ourselves to discover what we truly want vs. what we aim to let go of.
On a societal level, this Pluto retrograde will probably influence us to think about the forces that are having the greatest impact on our lives, which are technology (especially the AI boom), governments, large corporations, and social structures. The Aquarian energy is forcing us to question whether these forces are truly beneficial for humanity. This combined with the recent Jupiter-Uranus conjunction indicates big changes which will likely manifest in potential shifts in power dynamics and heightened awareness of corruption in our institutions.
